JellyStreamz Games for Jellyfin

Let your server hold the game shelf.

Scan game folders once on Jellyfin, manage the artwork in one place, and browse the same polished library from supported JellyStreamz devices.

Built for the library you already own

One scan. Every supported screen.

The plugin reads folders available to your Jellyfin server and sends only the game library experience to JellyStreamz clients. ROM contents are not uploaded to JellyStreamz, filesystem paths stay administrator-only, and stock Jellyfin clients stay uncluttered.

  • Choose a console and artwork set for every folder
  • Browse server folders and choose exactly which Jellyfin users can open each library
  • Match renamed ROMs with title aliases and privacy-safe fingerprints
  • Upload custom covers, box backs, backdrops, logos, screenshots, and media art
  • Keep favorites, hidden games, play counts, and recents separate for each Jellyfin user

Server libraries use the same grid, cover flow, logo, and wheel views as local sources.

What the plugin handles

A server role with clear boundaries.

Jellyfin stores and serves the library. Your Android device still runs RetroArch or the standalone emulator you choose.

Console-aware scanning

Each library follows the extensions for its selected platform and can scan one folder or its full directory tree.

Reliable matching

Fast title matching is followed by CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, and RetroAchievements-compatible checks, including playable files inside ZIP and 7z archives.

Server artwork

Cache only the art types you want, choose primary images, replace a bad match, or upload your own files from the Jellyfin dashboard.

User access

Choose who may open each library, while favorites, hidden titles, recent games, and play counts follow the active Jellyfin profile.

Private API

Every game, image, and ROM request requires a valid Jellyfin session and library permission. Server paths remain administrator-only.

Local emulation

The client downloads a launch copy, checks the selected core or emulator, and returns to the same game detail screen after play.

RetroAchievements

Connect an account on Android to match supported ROM hashes and see unlocked, hardcore, and remaining trophies on each game page.

Complete setup guide

From repository to a playable game shelf.

You only do the server setup once. Each step below shows the screen and the exact choices that matter.

Repository URL https://jellystreamz.com/plugins/manifest.json View JSON
Jellyfin Server 10.11 Administrator access A server-readable game folder A current JellyStreamz Android build
  1. Step 1

    Add the JellyStreamz repository.

In Jellyfin, open Dashboard, then Plugins. Choose Manage Repositories and select New Repository.

    Repository name
    JellyStreamz
    Repository URL
    https://jellystreamz.com/plugins/manifest.json

Save the repository. JellyStreamz will now appear as a plugin catalog source.

Repositories lives above the plugin catalog in Jellyfin 10.11.
  2. Step 2

    Install JellyStreamz Games.

Return to the plugin catalog, choose Available, and open JellyStreamz Games. Install the current compatible release.

    • Confirm the catalog shows JellyStreamz Games version 1.2.0.0 or newer
    • Restart Jellyfin after installation so the dashboard page and private API are loaded
    • After restart, JellyStreamz Games appears in the Plugins section of the dashboard sidebar
The plugin is free and installs from the repository you just added.
  3. Step 3

    Create the server game library.

Open JellyStreamz Games from the dashboard sidebar, choose Libraries, then select Add library.

    Folder
Use Browse to choose a path the Jellyfin service can read.
    Console
Choose the platform that matches the ROM folder.
    Users
Grant access only to the Jellyfin profiles that should see this library.
    Artwork
Box front is required. Add box back, backdrop, logo, screenshot, and media art as desired.

Keep one console per library. Separate folders make matching, cores, BIOS checks, and artwork more reliable.

Library access follows Jellyfin users; the filesystem path remains administrator-only.
  4. Step 4

    Scan, connect, and play.

Start the scan from the plugin library page. Then sign into the same server in JellyStreamz and open Gaming Settings. The server plugin check should show Installed and active.

    • Open Gaming to see only the server libraries available to the active Jellyfin user
    • Choose RetroArch or a standalone emulator and the correct core for each console
    • Configure any legally obtained BIOS files on the Android playback device

Setup help

Quick fixes for the common snags.

The repository saves, but the plugin is not in the catalog.

Refresh the catalog and confirm the manifest URL uses HTTPS with no spaces. If it still does not appear, restart Jellyfin and open Available plugins again.

The plugin is installed, but Gaming is empty.

Open the plugin Libraries tab, confirm the scan finished, and make sure the active Jellyfin user is allowed to access that library. In the Android app, run the server plugin check again.

A game matched the wrong title or artwork.

Open Games & artwork in the plugin dashboard. You can replace the match, re-download art, choose a different primary image, or upload your own cover and backdrop.

The game downloads but does not launch.

The Jellyfin plugin serves the file; emulation happens on Android. Confirm RetroArch or the selected standalone emulator is installed, the core supports the file extension, and any required BIOS is configured on that device.

Required on the playback device

Emulation stays in your hands.

Install RetroArch or a supported standalone emulator on Android, then configure the core and any legally obtained BIOS files it requires. JellyStreamz can help check BIOS names and select emulators, but the plugin does not distribute emulators, cores, firmware, or games.
