Space Battleship Yamato (宇宙戦艦ヤマト Uchū Senkan Yamato) was a 1985 Japanese exclusive Laserdisc video game designed by Taito. The game is based on the anime Japanese science fiction television series of the same name. Although not released in North America, the game shows two title screens, one in Japanese and another in English. The English title screen uses the Star Blazers: Space Cruiser Yamato naming used for the anime series broadcast on North American and Australian television The arcade game is unrelated to the Star Blazer Sega game released in 1983. The arcade game features footage from the movies and series as well as original animation created solely for the purpose of this laser disc game. The game play is a hybrid of different laser disc genres. It is mainly a collection of firing stages similar to Astron Belt and Cobra Command. It also has action sequences similar to those found in games like Ninja Hayate or Dragon's Lair.
