Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is a party game starring characters from the both the Mario & Sonic universe, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The game offers fourteen different Olympic events from the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. Events included are rugby sevens, football, 100m sprint, BMX, 100m relay, 100m swimming, triple jump, boxing, beach volleyball, equestrian event, table tennis, archery, javelin throwing and rhythmic gymnastics. There are also three dual events (rugby sevens, football and beach ball) that include power-ups that can be used to gain advantage over an opposing player. Most sports have their own venue. The central area in the game is the Copacabana Beach. Here the player controls his/her Mii and can talk to different characters from both teams and other Miis. The game can be played with up to four players and has unlockable content.
