Lordlings of Yore is a 1-4 player medieval themed strategy game 4 Lordlings, up to 3 of whom may be computer opponents, battle for dominance to become Lord of the Realm. Game play occurs on a multi-screen grid consisting of different terrains. The player controls a single keep, with the goal to take over enemy lands and destroy their center of power. The player levies tax upon their peasants, and must increase their tax base to raise funds to produce troops and purchase spells. The player also controls a necromancer, who can be brought into the field to cast powerful spells to devastate enemy forces. The necromancer must be accompanied by knights and men-at-arms to safely leave the castle. There are also options to give gold to other players. Each turn is divided into 4 distinct phases: - Necromancer Phase - The player can move their necromancer, create impenetrable fog to protect themselves from enemy advance, or cast spells they have acquired - Treasury Phase - The player can make spend their cash reserves. Money can go towards purchasing Knights or Men-at-Arms. As well, new spells for your necromancer can be purchased. Money can be spent appeasing your peasants, gathering intelligence on enemies, or bribing other players. - Deployment Phase - Troops can be moved from a garrison into troops onto the field - Movement Phase - Deployed troops can be moved on the field - Options Phase - Allows for saving games, quitting the game, or sending messages to other players
